Semi-retired farmer Lew Shaw is Methven's newest but probably most rough-handed beauty queen.
After prowling the (tom) catwalk in a series of sequinned outfits, Shaw, 59, took the Miss Methven crown on Saturday night.
The event, featuring men dressed as women, raised $10,000 for Our Lady of the Snows School. Shaw endured a two-hour body-waxing session for his transformation.
"That got my attention," he said. "`It's guaranteed to clear a hangover."
Shaw, posing as Miss Search and Rescue, "Ursula Upthecreek", said a dance teacher taught him to walk like a model and pose with a feather boa.
He also learnt that applying hairspray to the soles of stockinged feet would help stop someone slipping in "skyscrapers", or high heels.
Organiser Cath Roderick said Shaw took the title through force of personality.
"It was more his attitude," she said.

"Put it this way, he hasn't got a shy bone in his body.
"He stayed in character right to the end and stole the show."
Shaw's partner, Mags Scott, said she spent hours "elaborating" on the outfits, including adding a "roman blind" effect to one of the dresses.
Shaw was able to pull a string when he bent over, pulling up the hemline of his dress to reveal a pair of frilly knickers.
Scott said the concertina effect was a hit with the crowd.
"He bent down, all cute like well not cute because he's quite big ... but the crowd went nuts."
