Mayor charged with theft of undies 
The mayor of a town council has been charged with breaking into women's homes and stealing underwear.
Ian Stafford, 58, who has reportedly resigned as Mayor of Preesall in Lancashire, UK, was charged on Monday by Lancashire Police with three counts of burglary in connection with the missing garments.
Female residents called in police after their underwear kept disappearing and one woman even installed a hidden camera in her bedroom.
The part-time handyman and gardener will appear at Wyre Magistrates' Court next month.
A Lancashire police spokesman said: "Ian Stafford has been charged with three counts of burglary in a dwelling in connection with incidents at addresses in Preesall, Poulton-le-Fylde and Stalmine between January 1 and June 26 2009."

Knicker-stealing mayor pleads guilty
Police arrested Stafford in June and charged him with burgling three homes
A former Lancashire mayor has been warned he could face jail after admitting stealing women's underwear from three separate addresses.
Ian Stafford, 59, of Sandicroft Place, Preesall, pleaded guilty to three counts of burglary at Preston Crown Court on Monday.
Judge Philip Sycamore told the former Mayor of Preesall that all sentencing options would be open - including a jail term - when he appears in court to be sentenced on February 5.
Stafford, who works as a part-time handyman and gardener, has resigned from his civic post and another councillor, Rosina Lawson has taken over.
Police arrested Stafford in June and charged him with burgling three homes in Preesall, Poulton-le-Fylde and Stalmine between January and June last year.
He has been granted unconditional bail

Stafford, 59, was seen walking into the woman’s bedroom, rifling through her drawers, and selecting a pair of knickers he wanted to wear.
Does anyone recognize their former/present lover? Sad it was only a panty that was the difference between him being a hero and a bum.
