HRW denounces Saudi transvestite arrests

RIYADH, Saudi Arabia, June 24 (UPI) --

Saudi Arabian authorities should drop charges against 67 men arrested in Riyadh for wearing women's clothing, human rights advocates say.

Human Rights Watch said in a release Wednesday that the men, most of whom were from other countries, had their basic human rights to privacy and freedom of expression violated in the reported June 13 arrests.

"If the police in Saudi Arabia can arrest people simply because they don't like their clothes, no one is safe," said Rasha Moumneh, researcher in the Middle East and North Africa division of Human Rights Watch.

The group said the episode was reported by the Saudi daily al-Riyadh on June 16 and corroborated by independent sources contacted by Human Rights Watch. HRW said the newspaper reported that several men outside a private party, held in Riyadh to celebrate the Philippines' Independence Day, were arrested for what the police told them was "suspicious behavior" because they were wearing women's clothing.

The police questioned the men, then reportedly raided the party, arresting 67 men in all, including one Yemeni and numerous Filipinos. Philippines Embassy officials say the men face charges of "imitating women" and possession of alcohol.


There is one good thing about Saudi Arabia. In Saudi Arabia, only men can work at malls, meaning that most lingerie stores are staffed by men. Plus, there are no fitting rooms in Saudi stores because a woman is prohibited to undress outside her home.

Tired of feeling embarrassed about asking a man for a different cup size (or a thong), many Saudi women started boycotting lingerie stores three months ago. They’re pushing for a law that’ll state that only women can be employed at lingerie stores, though so far religious clerics have stopped that from happening.

So its not just us men who are calling for lingerie liberation

A few years ago i had to visit saudi and bahrain with work and just carried on wearing panty and outher lingerie as normal. when in bahrain i even bought some from a womens clothing store to add to my collection.

Its just kind of crazy what religion/morals problems can cause, can't wear panties but you can work in the lingerie shop and fondle them all day, and most likely measure woman for the correct size...they must pay the clerics to get those jobs for certain...best to just stay out of the sand box...to hot anyway...

I lived for many years in Saudi and had a big panty collection care of trips outside the Kingdom. For sure I kept it private and you never ever mess with the religious people there as there is no tolerance. (Jonkers you pushed your luck) Men only in lingerie shops and just one example of the kind of stupidity the fundamentalists come out with, particularly as the Saudi women absolutlely adore spending on clothing & makeup for inside the home - the women have big women only parties.

they are so stuck in time with there laws and attitudes for a big developing country trying to bring the tourist's in this doesn't help.My mum went there with her sister to the sail looking hotel and got treated like dirt because of her sex they need to wake up before people stop going there. A friend went there for work and got arrested for kissing his girlfriend on the beach and she said the Arab men treated her like crap to so they left and came home after only 2 weeks saying they want westerners there but not western ways and freedoms they just want are money and work expertise to build there dumb fake islands and crap.

Saudi Arabia is probably the worst of the bunch, but most Moslem countries are pretty backwards as far as anything sexual is concerned. In Iran, gays can avoid incarceration (or worse) by submitting to gender reassignment surgery, but then they "belong" to their nearest male relative, who can kill them without fear of punishment if they choose to. Islam in many ways is just stuck in the 9th century.

Just to clear one thing first I am a Saudi citizen and muslem who love to ware woman clothe but in private for meany reasons like:
1- it is porhabited in Islam
2- Panty wearing concederer as gay atitude where it is also porhabited
3- panty wearing is like attacking woman rights and privacy
4- you will be concedered as weak man which is not acceptable

Not to mention that all Arab countries are sharing same ideas

That what I have In mind where there is more

Thanks god that my wife is accepting my panty and bra wearing because of her open mind only in side home or under my male clothes (dark t-shirt & jeans) out side

My dream is to walke around In high heels pump freely in the street as normal man in heels since I am not into wearing woman clothes in public

As we all share our love to panties the last thing to worry about is my nationality and religious, it is common to find our love as prohibited in some countries and most religious within all communities.
We should be opened minded to understand eachother and live in peace.
