Police have released pictures of a man who broke into a Sunshine Coast unit to steal a handbag - while dressed in women's clothing.

Security vision shows the man entering the unoccupied unit in Noosaville through an unlocked door just before 6am on Sunday.

He was wearing what looked like women's clothing and took a handbag that was left in the unit.

After rummaging through the handbag, he dropped it outside and left empty handed.

Police said the bizarre incident was captured on a security camera that had been installed after a spate of thefts inside the same unit complex.

They have appealing to the public for help to identify this man her and hope early morning joggers or walkers may have noticed him around Munna Crescent in Noosaville just before sunrise on Sunday.
