Simon Carroll led a secret double life
Simon Carroll, 43, vanished in March last year, shortly after his employers spotted huge discrepancies in their finances. His car was found abandoned near the notorious East Sussex suicide spot Beachy Head, but his body has never been found.
Police are now investigating the possibility that the accountant, who worked for a number of companies, faked his own death and fled abroad, possibly to Ireland or Greece.
It has also emerged that Carroll, from Essex, led a secret double life, alleged to involve cross-dressing, a cocaine habit and a penchant for prostitutes.
Detectives uncovered images on a laptop appearing to show Carroll dressed in a blond wig and women’s underwear and his "unusual lifestyle" involved wild parties, expensive cars, designer suits and frequent luxury holidays.
A police source said: "There is a suggestion that the fraud was rumbled and that he was aware of that discrepancies in the accounts had been identified by his employers. Shortly afterwards, he disappeared.
"He was reported as a missing person and is still being treated as such. But after extensive enquiries, police are still no closer to knowing his whereabouts. His lifestyle was certainly not what you’d describe as normal.
"The fraud involved the theft of employees’ tax contributions. The thinking is, that by the time it is discovered, the money is elsewhere and you are long gone."
Carroll is said to have two passports, one British and the other Irish. The Irish passport remains unaccounted for. "If he is anywhere, it’s not likely to be in this country," the source added.
Neighbours living near Carroll’s three-bedroom detached home in Shoeburyness said he was well-known for throwing noisy parties that went on late into the night.
The family now living in his house said they had discovered a secret 'den’ next to a bedroom which was filled with transvestite pornography. ...............
