Hi there Panty. I just voted for Thongs. I just love thongs and wear them all the time. I especially like the microfiber type. I have on a pink pair of no line type now. They are like wearing nothing at all. But, you get that 'support' that "we" need.
As to tampons or pads, I don't know why you would want to use a pad for anything other than a suggestion I read in a post from Pantyholic. She suggested to use them to cover and 'hide' your member.

FWIW, I know some folks tend to cringe at the idea, but from time to time, I've used a pad both to "tuck and hide" better and to serve as "protection."
Let me be more specific. I find that rubbing myself on top of a pad can enhance the idea that I am rubbing a clit rather than a yucky old penis. The extra padding helps to mask the obvious and it's easy to imagine that my balls are instead pussy lips. The downside (or maybe it's an upside?) is that it often takes me as long to "get off" this way as for women I've known, and the few sources of lesbian erotic videos that are not entirely catering to what they think a male audience wants.
In fact, if I'm not totally focused I will sometimes lose interest after 30 or 40 minutes of this. But when it works it's a surefire way to reach more of a full-body orgasm than if things are just focussed on the cockhead and the idea that squirting and orgasms are impossible to separate. Usually after a series of full-body spasms, I will find it difficult not to push matters towards squirting, but it's always done with mixed feelings.

Even though I voted for Thongs, I do wear strings (which I have on a pair of green lacy strings now and they feel great). I have used tampons in the past and pads. I don't any more since the wife got upset using hers and finding others in my hiding spot. Oh well!

I definitely prefer the full coverage panties in nylon, as they fit and feel the best. Comfort is everything and nothing is worse than having the equipment drop out of the crotch.
