Doctor charged over posing as girl, 13

A doctor posed as a teenage girl called 'Katie' and swapped photos and exchanged sexually explicit messages with youngsters on the internet, medical watchdogs have heard.

Dr Thomas Dent claimed to be 13-year-old 'Katie Beckinsale' and emailed 26 teenagers using indecent language about sex and underwear, the General Medical Council (GMC) heard.

The GP, also a director at the National Institute for Clinical Excellence, emailed one girl: "You look so good in that bikini. It's so cool you are into panties too. I am horny again now."

Dr Dent, 40, of Newbury, Berkshire, was only caught by chance. He was on the train on his way home from work in 2004, using his laptop looking at a picture of a teenage girl and again posing as 'Katie.'

But he had happened to sit down next to a police special constable who was looking over his shoulder.

He was arrested on June 29, 2004 by Hampshire Police on suspicion of possession of indecent images of children and of grooming children.

In his defence, he told police he had suffered from urinary incontinence in his youth and had only wanted to "provide a friendly ear" to other youngsters suffering the same problem.

The Crown Prosecution Service decided to drop the case, saying there was no realistic prospect of a conviction. Despite his behaviour being "strange and troubling" they did not constitute a criminal offence.

Today at the GMC, sitting in Manchester, Dr Dent faced a fitness-to-practise panel charged with serious professional misconduct over his internet behaviour and by misleading the police and the GMC.

This sort of thing makes me see red. This bastard should be struck off at the very least. Also, he should be put on the sex offenders list, even though he escaped without charge. This story is also suffering from urinary incontinence, it's a medical term for taking the fucking piss.
