Muslim women protest New Year transvestite contest in Indonesia

A group of Muslim women on Sumatra island marched to their local parliament building Friday to protest a government-sponsored transvestite contest to celebrate the New Year, a local report said.
More than 100 women from the local Muslim Women's Network in Pekanbaru, the capital of Riau province, demanded to meet the speaker of the provincial legislature to protest the event, scheduled to be held on New Year's Eve, but "did not succeed".
"The plan to hold a transvestite contest means that the Riau government supports the existence of transvestites and that will lead to free sexual activity," Elvira Rosa, coordinator of the Muslim Women's Network in Pekanbaru, 960 km northwest of Jakarta, was quoted by the local online news agency detik.com as saying.
The Muslim women's group warned local government leaders that Indonesia had not legally recognised the existence of transvestites, and that the contest, which was scheduled to be held in a hotel in Pekanbaru, was forbidden under Islamic teachings.
"Government money will be wasted on this joke of exploiting transvestites," Elvira Rosa said.
Almost 90 percent of Indonesia's 220 million people are Muslims, making it the most populous Muslim country in the world.
While Indonesia has been the site of terrorist attacks by Islamic militants that have killed about 250 people in the past three years, the majority of Indonesians practise moderate forms of Islam.

I think the bottom line is jealousy. The Muslim women who are complaining and bitching bare a remarkable resemblence to goats.
Hmm maybe the Goats should start a protest

Please don't start a flame-war. I happened to have dated a Muslim woman in college. And she was very upset when I didn't wear panties on a date (after she found my collection at my apartment!)
They don't all look like goats, but the ones complaining in this story... well that's another matter entirely.
