How do you buy yours? The fear and joy of buying in public

I expect most, like me, buy them primarily by mail order. It's safe and discreet. Nobody needs to know that you are a man, and it is easily kept a secret from your significant others, especially if you are able as I am to have them delivered elsewhere than home.
However, I have also bought them in shops. The experience is both terrifying and exhilarating.
My first experience of this type of feeling was actually when buying porn. I had a bad experience with mail-order porn at boarding school. A company I used to buy from refused to take me off their mailing list and continued to bombard me with advertising and flyers long after I had left school, and it was a source of constant worry that sooner or later someone would see what was inside those brown envelopes instead of passing them on to me. I eventually got out of it with the help of the Citizen's Advice Bureau. After that I mainly bought from shops, though with the internet that problem has ceased to exist. I would carefully select the shops to go into. Small corner shops, where I could loiter by the magazines then make a dash for the till when I was the only customer in the shop, preferably with a man or an older woman behind the counter. One day I was travelling home by train (still living with parents) and was desperate for something to wank over that night. I changed at Brimingham New Street station late in the evening and passed a news stand on the bridge between platforms. The only attendant was a young girl. What to do? I found a magazine (Razzle probably, or Escort) and handed it to her. I was so nervous it was unreal, and I realised that my leg was shaking uncontrollably. I paid for it and hurried away as quickly as I could.
So what about panties? Well, on a few occasions I have plucked up the courage to walk into a shop, browse through the knickers and take some to the counter to buy them. I'm older now, more sure of myself and with a lot of life experience under my belt (some right under it ;-) I still find it scary but at the same time it is quite a thrilling experience at times, and if I'm in the right mood I relish the opportunity to hand a pair of skimpy panties to a young woman, look her in the eye and wonder if she's thinking, maybe it's for his wife or girlfriend, maybe he's a dirty old perv. I'm thinking, if only you knew I am going to be wearing these later, and I'd like to wear yours too, preferably after sniffing them first. It's excruciating and thrilling. From the moment I enter the shop my mouth runs dry, my pulse quickens, my skin tingles from the hairs standing on end. My cock may stiffen or I may be too nervous to benefit from that luxurious semi-hard-on that makes the whole experience that little bit more deliciously sordid. It can be made even better by donning a tiny pair of knickers before setting off for the shops, and feeling them under my jeans as the eyes follow me round the shop ("what's he doing in here?")
It's always far from home, where nobody knows me. I've done it in small independent lingerie retailers, bigger shops in market halls, Ann Summers (more expected but still exciting, and there is a guarantee of rubbing shoulders with lots of girls as I rifle through the panties) and even a big department store (M&S) - easily the most daunting. There is no law against it, nobody can stop me, nobody can invade my private thoughts or stop me from being aroused by it. It's my little secret.
Now is a good time to do it, with the unspoken "I'm buying her Christmas present" excuse hovering in the air; early February is also useful as St Valentine delivers a bucket-load of excuses for men to buy knickers.
If you've never tried it then you'll never know how exciting it can be. Go on, treat yourself.
I expect my next pair of knickers will be delivered by the postman once again, but sooner or later I will pluck up the courage again to face the world and come out as a pansy.
[Footnote - the photo of me with that little white thong disappearing up my bum was taken just before I pulled on my jeans and went out shopping.]

Some big store the clerks dont know what to say. Walmart the girl just blushed and rang up the order. Target the girl just said nothing. But small stores smeem like they will help you.

Anyway, the only thing that puts me off a little is if the panty aisle has a few women in it. I'm not embarrassed, but I feel they might think I'm a perv looking at what they are buying and I don't want to make them feel uncomfortable.

It gets easier the more you do it, walk in to a store and buy lingerie that is. For me it still causes a momentary jump in pulse still, like 1/10 of a second, but that is all. No big deal.
Gong to the internet these days is strictly either due to selection, when was the last time you saw Dixie Belle panties in a store for instance, or price, eBay being really cheap often.

Actually, most stores have their lingerie sales after New Years, so watch JC Penney, Sears, VS, Kohls, K-Mart, Wal-Mart, Target, etc.

I buy a lot of my stuff from La Vie en Rose. They always have plenty of panties at 4 for $10 or 5 for $15 of the fancier ones. Otherwise I have shopped a lot at the Bay some Zellers, some Sears and some at porn shops. There is a place near Downtown Vancouver that a fellow panty wearer got me onto that sells a lot of lingerie and panties and has no problem catering to men in panties (as others said, they want the sale).

Love it when I have the Wife with me and when we go to pay and she'll say something like 'You have more panties than me now.' Just seeing reactions brings a smile to my face every time!
Going shopping alone will always illicit a small amount of nervous trepidation, more akin to nervous excitement I suppose, but I just love it. I have a similar rush if I am somewhere I shouldn't be and panties are just waiting to be hunted down! ;-)
