Transvestite found not guilty in slaying

A Richmond man who lives as a woman was found not guilty Thursday of the shooting death of a close friend who was also a transvestite.

It took a jury about 1½ hours to acquit Daniel Lee "Ashley" Veney, 34, in the July 2 shooting death of John "April Marie" Walker.

Walker, 45, was found dead in the doorway of his apartment in the 2000 block of North 29th Street in Creighton Court. He had been shot once in the head and once in the upper left chest.

Both shots were lethal, the medical examiner said..............
