That's how I feel personally. But if wearers think the name (granny) makes the panty sound more sexier then ok but I don't really know how the name came about. Years ago all women wore huge full briefs, maybe the name (granny) is supposed to reflect the age of the cut rather than the age of the wearer or it's intended wearer I dunno.
But looking through the gallery there are quite a few members who are fans of this style panty, which makes for an interesting variety of pictures.
I do own a few pair myself, but to be honest I'm not a big wearer of them, unlike members similar to yourself pantyboy1 who remain loyal to the cut.

I've always figured it had more to do with the generation using the term, and that transition in the mid-to-late Sixties, when "sexy" came to be associated with bikini styles and other more revealing panty styles, so that you were most likely to find full briefs in Grandma's lingerie chest and other style in Mom's (if Mom was still fairly young and not part of one of the more repressive sub-cultures).
After all, I don't think basic full briefs have really gone out of style among the Mormons or other socially conservative/reactionary communities, even today. When I was growing up the only place in real life, besides the department stores, where I would spot deliberately sexy undies was at the home of one Uncle and Aunt, who were (and are) well distanced from "the Church."
Maybe while we're back on this subject I'll mention something that occurred to me after I'd already answered. That is, there are "basic" full briefs (cotton or nylon, white or beige) and then there is also a range of full briefs that, while they're exactly the same cut, are embellished with lace inserts, ruffles and flourishes, ala Fifties and Sixties cheesecake photos. These are often the inspiration for some new panties modeled on the old ones, but sometimes pushed even further (or modified expressly for sale (mainly?) to panty boys and the occasional high femme/or gg drag queen). I could offer links to some eBay sellers if it didn't look like advertising.
Anyway, rather than type, here's a few 1000 words in better form, to illustrate the point.

Searching for "granny panties" will net a lot less than if you narrow your search to the women's panties category and screen for brief, keyword: vintage.
see:
Briefs, vintage (184 items when I searched, the number will vary, though, over time)
vs.
granny panties (7 items with pics and 9 more in stores -- and about half of those were not granny panties, the text of the description just used the phrase somewhere, in cases I looked at, as a disparaging term).

Hmm that's interesting to know, and I see only 2 of the seven returned results for granny actually metioned the keyword in the item's title.
One of the other results "Granny Smith Apple" refered to color of the panty, I never checked the others.
Some of the Urban dictionary terms are, and these by the way are young peoples perception of the term Granny Panties
Cotton underwear that old people wear
White cotton undies that old or fat ladies wear, and they pull them clear up to their tits.
Nasty, poofy panties for either elderly women or the uptight, sexually insecure.
Underwear that go past your belly button, and are huge and stupid!
And so on......... So yes I guess using the term granny would be bad for the business side of things, especially if one was trying to attract young customers.

But to be honest there is a BIG difference from Full Coverage nice fitting briefs (which I wear about 50% of the time) usually out of nylon or micro-fiber and in soft pastle colors with pretty designs and what I would call "Granny Panties". Then again I maybe wrong.
Kind of doubt if many grannies wore panties like these I know mine never did.

Ah! Come to think of it, at least if memory is not faulty, between granny and mom I'd have to say my (paternal) granny had the sexier selection.
Of course some of what I thought were hers may have been items that had belonged to her daughters. Never figured out how to clarify that one.
I just remember furtive dress-up sessions in the basement, often with mucho family hanging around upstairs (and this was a basement that had an outside access door, so someone could show up at any time). I really don't know how I managed to escape detection. Probably didn't entirely, just no one decided to make an issue of it if they did notice.

One place with fairly good prices (for online, that is) is Frishman's. They're an old-line NY specialty retailer, and carry all the standard (US) brands -- Vanity Fair, Bali, Shadowline, and tend to offer competitive 3-for-$15 or similar packages on many styles. Their stock is limited, though, mainly to the most popular and long-running styles of each maker that they sell.
You can often do slightly better by shopping at discounters (particularly Kohl's) during the semi-annual sales that tend to come (I think) in Jan. and June. You'll often get both a maker's special offer and the store's promo price during these windows. And the January sale tends to be great in that even with advertising the lingerie department will have maybe 2 or 3 other customers, tops, at least if you go there early or mid-day.
Pricier (but nicer material, construction, etc.) can be found (if you're a 14 dress size or over) at the retail Lane Bryant stores -- NOT the same thing as the catalogue and attendant website. Their prices are at first a shocker ($17 - $24 each, purchased separately). But the discounts for buying bulk whittle those numbers down to a point where they're not cheap, but they're also not too outrageous. Especially if you start comparing prices to "high fashion" brands like La Perla or even Wacoal. At the website linked, you can usually purchase nearly everything (at least in panties) that is sold in the stores. And often it will be easier to find that ideal color you wanted in trying to take advantage of the steep discounts you'll get for buying sets of 3 or 4.
On the other side of the scale, WalMart and KMart carry quite cheap (house brand) full briefs (and other panties). I've had pretty bad luck with them (well, with WalMart more than KMart) though, the few times I've taken the bait (WalMart has one line that sells for 88 cent each). Those particular panties were nowhere near the size they were labelled, the elastic was unforgiving and uncomfortable, and seams tended to rip, sometimes on the very first wearing. I've got a couple I've never even tried on, because I didn't want to potentially waste the time if they disintegrated in my hands.
In any case, there is a Chinese company that actually does the manufacturing of most of the private label panties for Target (Gilligan & O'Malley, Xhilaration), WalMart (Secret Treasures), KMart and JC Penney (and probably a half dozen more I've forgotten, or that have no East Coast presence).
Also, One Hanes Place (for standard 5-7 sizes) and JustMySize for larger sizes have very, very decent prices, though a lot of what they sell are factory seconds. You usually have to look pretty hard to find the flaws and they rarely affect the life of the panty much. Both names have mail order, online and outlet mall "locations."

The Lane Bryant panties mostly sell in the $12.50 (solids) $14.50 (prints) range, at least for these basics in either cotton or satin. Cotton comes in a lot more colors -- 4 different shades of solid pink, for instance. Satin is offered in about 7 solid colors beyond the basic white/beige/black choices.
But all of these sell in a 5 for the price of 3 deal, so, forgetting shipping and tax, the final price is $7.50 if you pick only solids.
There are certainly cheaper panties around, but for something roomy and yet not baggy or droopy, and for something that is very sexy to the touch, these tend to be a good value.
