Accused double-murderer Col. Russell Williams is now facing multiple break-in charges in connection with a series of panty thefts that took place in the Fallingbrook area in the fall of 2008.

Col. Williams is accused of killing Cpl. Marie-France Comeau, 37, and Jessica Lloyd, 27, while he was the base commander at CFB Trenton. He has also been charged with two home invasion sex assaults..

Shortly after Col. Williams was arrested in February, police swooped down on his Westboro home which he shared with his wife at the time. During a search of the property they found hundreds of pairs of women`s panties.

After further investigation, they linked him to a series of break-ins that occured on Wilkie Drive and Simoneau Way in the fall of 2008 in which the only items stolen were women`s panties.

Ever since Williams was arrested, residents living in the area have assumed that Williams, who lived on Wilkie Drive at the time, was responsible for the break-ins.

Now that he has been charged, their suspicions have been proven correct.

Back when I was in the military, I joked with a female friend about how the commander's got off on room inspections (dorms/barracks) for the female troops. We came to the conclusion that she should get some hot pink panties and have the words, "INSPECT THESE" put on them. Of course we never followed up on it, and if she had they would have disappeared shortly after because I would've wanted them.

BELLEVILLE — At one point in a sexual assault that lasted nearly two hours last November, Cpl. Marie-France Comeau asked her assailant, Col. Russell Williams, if he was going to kill her.

“Have a heart, please,” she begged. “I’ve been really good. I want to live.”

Already bound with rope and gagged with duct tape, Comeau suffocated to death when Williams covered her nose with more tape.

These were among the litany of grisly details heard in a Belleville courtroom Tuesday, as facts surrounding one of the murders committed by Williams were made public during the second day of the sentencing hearing for the disgraced former CFB Trenton commander.

Williams was the commander of the country’s largest air force base when he launched his crime spree that left two young women — 37-year-old air force flight attendant Comeau and Jessica Lloyd, 27 — dead, and two others scarred by sexual assault.

Comeau’s family members sobbed in court Tuesday as the Crown described how Williams, who had met Comeau on a previous occasion, broke into her Brighton, Ont., home in November 2009 and took photos of her military uniform and sex aids before returning a week later to attack and murder her.

His face masked, he broke in through a basement window on his return visit, and waited by the furnace until she went to bed. She was wearing only a shawl when she came downstairs to look for her cat, instead discovering Williams, who struck her several times with a flashlight.

Williams subdued Comeau, bound her hands with rope and tied her to a metal post in her basement. He then broke off her house key in the door to prevent anyone from entering, and covered her bedroom window with a blanket.

Further signs of a struggle were evident, including blood on a light switch and hand rail. Williams took photos of Comeau unconscious and naked on the stairs before repeatedly raping her for nearly two hours. He also took photographs of her on her bed.

Comeau tried unsuccessfully to flee at one point when Williams left the bedroom.

The photos and videos Williams shot of his murder victims were not shown in court, although police photos showing her injuries were.

After Comeau’s death, Williams took more photos, washed her bed sheets with bleach, covered her body with a duvet, took nine pieces of lingerie and left through a patio door.

Williams, 47, pleaded guilty Monday to charges of first-degree murder, sexual assault, confinement, break-and-enter and theft — 86 charges in all, most stemming from a string of fantasy-driven crimes in Ottawa and Tweed, Ont. from 2007 to 2009, during which underwear, bathing suits and shoes were taken from bedroom drawers and closets. Williams also photographed himself wearing his victims’ undergarments.

Tuesday’s testimony began where it left off Monday, as the specifics of the two sexual assaults that Williams admitted to were made public.

In September 2009, Crown documents revealed, the second of his sexual assault victims fell asleep on the couch of her Tweed home while watching Law & Order, and awoke to find Williams hitting her repeatedly on the head.

After a 20-minute struggle, Williams blindfolded the woman and promised not to rape her if she allowed him to take nude photos of her. Those photos, the Crown said, “graphically depicted” Williams’ attack on the woman.

The story was similar to a previous attack on another woman, also in Tweed, two weeks before, on Sept. 14, 2009. After that attack, Williams told the woman to count to 300, after which time she removed her blindfold and phoned the police. Williams returned to the woman’s home on two occasions after the attack, each time stealing 15 items of lingerie.

One of the assault victims is now suing Williams, who will continue to receive his military pension while in prison. The woman says the attack has left her depressed and, at times, suicidal.

The plea agreement guarantees Williams will spend the next 25 years behind bars.

On Monday, the Crown’s statement of facts depicted a disturbed man with a predilection for women in their late teens and early 30s. Girls younger than 18 were targets in 13 of the homes he broke into, some as young as nine. In one instance, he took photos of a 12-year-old girl’s underwear drawer and masturbated on her bed.

He frequently modelled lingerie and took photos of himself, spending an average of two hours inside the homes he broke into.

He was also fixated with organization, meticulously laying out underwear and taking photos of each item.

According to the Crown statement, Williams’ break-ins followed a similar pattern. He would first take a panoramic photograph of a bedroom, followed by photos of the underwear drawer and individual items. He would then photograph himself wearing the underwear and, sometimes, masturbating.

The break-ins reveal his “obsessive behaviour” and “unusual sexuality,” the Crown said.

Williams’ first known break-in in the Ottawa area was on Cara Crescent in Orléans on May 9, 2008, when he stole 15 pieces of lingerie. In another break-in on the same street, he stole 87 pieces of lingerie and a sex aid.

In yet another Ottawa home that he broke into twice, he described the girls who lived there, all younger than 14, as “mystery little girls.”

All of the Ottawa break-and-enters occurred within walking distance of the Wilkie Drive house Williams shared with his wife. Williams kept a log of all the crimes he committed, and kept the stolen items in file folders so his wife wouldn’t learn of his criminal activity.

Victim-impact statements will be read in court during this week’s sentencing hearing.
